Types of Iran Visa

 A 

A) Entry

An Entry Visa is effectively a business visa. It is required by foreign nationals who wish to travel to Iran for economic, commercial, cultural or industrial purposes. It is also required by those attending economic or cultural conferences or those participating in sporting events.

To obtain an Entry Visa you need to have an Iranian business partner or registered company that will endorse you. After that, you can submit a visa application form and wait for it to be processed.

Required documents

  1. Invitation letter from business partner or company lodged on https://evisabusiness.mfa.ir/
  2. Completed visa application form
  3. Two recent biometric 3x4 photos (full frontal, without hat, without dark glasses, personal information written on the back)
  4. Original passport with at least 6 months validity
  5. Payment receipt for visa issuance according to consular costs

 

B) Tourist

A Tourist Visa is issued for foreign nationals who are interested in traveling to Iran, individually or with a group, to visit tourist sites and attraction or friends and relatives.

The Tourist Visa should be applied for via travel agencies before traveling to Iran. After approval, you will receive a visa authorization code (reference number). With it the visa can be picked up from the previously specified Iran embassy or consulate.

  2. Two recent biometric 3x4 photos (full frontal, without hat, without dark glasses, personal information written on the back)
  3. Original passport with at least 6 months validity
  4. Payment receipt for visa issuance according to consular costs

 

C) Airport/Visa On Arrival (VOA)

An Airport Visa or Visa On Arrival (VOA) in Iran’s international airports which include:

  • Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKA) - Tehran
  • Mehrabad International Airport (THR) - Tehran
  • Mashhad International Airport (MHD) / Shahid Hashemi Nejad Airport
  • Shiraz Inernational Airport (SYZ)
  • Tabriz International Airport (TBZ)

Foreign nationals who are interested in travelling in Iran may obtain this visa if they have not previously applied for a visa at an embassy or consulate. The advantage is that it’s cheaper and usually easy to obtain. The disadvantage is that you have to exit the country if you’re not granted it and that it’s not available for nationals from the countries below:

  • Afghanistan
  • Bangladesh
  • Canada
  • Colombia
  • Iraq
  • Jordan
  • Pakistan
  • Somalia
  • United Kingdom
  • United States of America

D) Transit

A Transit Visa is issued for foreign nationals who want to pass through Iran to get to a third country and do not intend to stay in Iran. These individuals must transit through Iran within 7 days at most. Applicants include international truck drivers, railway staff, ship personal, and passengers getting on a connecting flight at an Iranian international airport.

The Transit Visa can be obtained at Iran’s international ports (borders).

Required documents

  1. Destination country’s valid visa
  2. Destination country’s valid travel ticket
  3. Completed visa application form
  4. Two recent biometric 3x4 photos (full frontal, without hat, without dark glasses, personal information written on the back)
  5. Original passport with at least 6 months validity
  6. Payment receipt for visa issuance according to consular costs

 

E) Other

Other types of visa include:

  1. Political: for diplomats, political figures and governmental figures.
  2. Study: for students of school, university and theology.
  3. Press: exclusively for journalists, photographers and newscasters who intend to cover news in Iran.
  4. Pilgrimage: for pilgrims and people who intend to visit religious places in Iran.
  5. Work Permit: for specialists and individuals who come to Iran to work.
  6. Service: for regular employees of political representatives of countries who are on non-political assignments.

These visas must be obtained before entering Iran from an Iranian embassy or consulate. First, you must complete a visa application form and submit it to an Iranian embassy or consulate. After being processed, you will be notified of the requirements and procedure.
